Gingerbread Cookies

Adapted from recipe for Gingerbread Men Cookies @tasteofhome.com 

Makes about 2 dozen

- 1/2 cup butter

- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar

-1/3 cup molasses

-1 large egg room temperature

-2 tbsp water

-2 2/3 cups flour

-1tsp baking soda

-1/2 tsp salt

-2 tsp ground ginger

-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

-1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

- 1/2 tsp ground allspice

White frosting, assorted round candies for buttons 

With mixer, cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add molasses, egg and water. In a separate bowl, whisk dry ingredients(flour through allspice). Combine dry ingredients with butter/sugar mixture and mix well. Divide dough in half, shape into a disk, cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes 

Remove dough from refrigerator and roll on lightly floured surface about 1/8 thickness. Use a cookie cutter and place each cookie shape on parchment lined baking sheet 2 inches apart. Bake at 350F for 8-10 minutes.  Cool completely and decorate with frosting and assorted candies.
